Studio Policies

By taking cello lessons with Carlie you agree to her studio policies. These policies should be referred to regularly. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact her directly.

Monthly Fees, Lesson Protocol, & Contact Procedure

Monthly Fees

-The non-refundable Monthly Fee is due the first of each month. This will cover all lessons for the month. If the student is aware of days he/she will be absent in advance to each month, he/she must notify me prior to being charged for that month's lesson(s). If for any reason I am not informed of days students will be absent prior to each month, monthly fees will not be changed to accommodate miscommunication. It is important to comply to our set schedule as much as possible. This will make it more convenient for other students.

-All students should aspire to one lesson per week.

  •           5 lessons per month = $75  Beginner;  $100  Intermediate;  $125  Advanced

  •           4 lessons per month = $60  Beginner;  $80    Intermediate;  $100  Advanced

  •           3 lessons per month = $45  Beginner;  $60    Intermediate;  $75    Advanced

  •           2 lessons per month = $30  Beginner;  $40    Intermediate;  $50    Advanced

-I will accept payment by cash or Venmo.

-Families with multiple students will receive a $5 discount per student for each child's Monthly Fee.

Lesson Protocol

-Parents are welcome to observe quietly and respectfully.

-Parents are encouraged to ask questions following the lesson in order to support their child's learning.

-Parents are more than welcome to contact me during the week if needed.

-Materials Needed for Lessons (purchased by student/parent):

  • Instrument, bow, case, and rosin (preferably dark)

  • Notebook and pencil

  • Tapes (only if student needs)

  • Music stand (for home use)

  • Instruction books and sheet music.

-I will primarily be teaching from Suzuki Book 1, Klengel Technical Studies Book 1, and Alwin Schroeder 170 Foundation Studies for Violincello Volume 1. I welcome orchestral pieces that students are working on from school. Please speak with me about what I require for each student's needs.

Tardies, Absences, & Make-up Lessons

Student Tardies

-No refunds will be given for lessons where the student is 10 minutes late or more.

-Lesson time will not be extended to compensate for student tardiness.

-Punctuality of student ensures full lesson instruction.

Student Cancellations

-Students who give 24-hour notice of an absence due to illness or emergency are eligible for a make-up lesson (does NOT include going out of town).

-Make-up lessons can be scheduled anytime during the month.

-Students need to schedule make-up lessons with me within the month of the absence.

-Students who give less than a 24-hour notice or no notice of an absence will not be eligible for a make-up lesson.

-Students that knowingly do not inform me before being charged prior to each month for absences will still pay for that lesson(s).

Teacher Cancellations

-I rarely have cancellations, but in the event of an emergency or illness, I will contact students ASAP to reschedule.

-If a make-up lesson cannot be scheduled during the month of my absence, the fee for that lesson will carry over into the next month.

Recitals

Studio Recitals

-My studio recitals will take place once a year. The exact date will be determined when it gets closer to each recital.

-This allows plenty of time for students to prepare their pieces between each recital.

-All students are encouraged to participate in studio recitals.

-A $15 fee is required for studio recitals to cover rental of the recital venue, accompanist fees, teacher's time, and any other associated costs (a refund or cancelation of this fee will NOT be given once recital preparations are underway).

-There will be NO lessons held the day of the recital, however lessons will resume regularly following each recital date.

-Recital performances are to be taken seriously with a dress code of professional dress or "Sunday best."
