What is your music background?

I began playing cello in sixth grade. I continued to play once I got to junior high finally beginning cello lessons with Deborah Glenn when I got to eighth grade. I continued to take lessons from her for three years. My senior year of high school I switched private teachers from Deborah to Russel Hansen. I took from Russel for a year before I started at Utah Valley University for a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance (studying under Dr. Cheung Chau for two and a half years). I then changed private teachers to then take from Monika Rosborough-Bowman for a year and a half. Each private teacher I have had over the years has helped me progress in different ways. 

 

Do Students need to be able to read music before they start?

Not necessarily-but I recommend that they have experience reading in school before they try to start reading music. It helps the note reading process go more smoothly.

Were do I go to purchase a cello?

I recommend Boothe Music in Spanish Fork, Utah or Summerhays Music in Orem, Utah. Both music stores are local which makes it convenient for repairs or updates. Both stores are more than willing to help with renting, purchasing, or rent to own.

How do I size a cello to my child?

Sizing a cello to your child depends on their height. If your child is tall I would suggest a 3/4 cello or a full size. If your child is shorter I would suggest a 1/2 size cello or 3/4. The best way to get a cello sized to your child is to take them to a music store to have them sized in store to a cello.

What days will there be no lessons? (subject to change)

-Thanksgiving Break (November 25th - 27th)

-Christmas Break (December 21st - January 1st)

-Spring Break (April 5th - 9th)

-Last two weeks of May (May 17th - 31st)

-Month of June (June 1st - 30th)

-Independence Day (4th of July)

I will be teaching all of the breaks from Nebo School District that are NOT listed above. If, for any reason the student will be absent during any of them, please let me know. I am more than happy to reschedule for these times. *I will reach out for morning lessons during the days off from school that are NOT listed above to make those days more convenient & open for myself & students.

Do you have any dogs?

Yes. We have a hypoallergenic West Highland White Terrier & a hypoallergenic Coton de Tulear. If your child has any allergies and would prefer that they remain out of the room, I am more than happy to keep them in a different area of my home. Typically while I am teaching I have the dog gate closed so they cannot enter the room while I have a student present.
